Microsoft Visual C++ Overlay or Borland C++ are unable to unpack with UE 1.5 and 1.6
Is there any compatible unpacking plugin for UE which can add to unpack this kind of installers?
These are basically generic installers created by either Visual C++ or Borland C++ that are not detected as anything more specific. They may or may not be supported, but I can't tell for sure without doing some hands-on testing. If you can provide any download links, let me know and I'll look into it.
That's similar to the C++ string mentioned by the original installer. It's just a generic installer that's created with Delphi, and PEiD can't identify it more specifically than that.
I have a Win 2K SP4 computer. There is a security problem with quicktime 7x. Anything beyond 7.1 is not supported anymore by Apple on Win 2K.
Someone on the forum used your Universal Extractor to work around this problem. Here is his entry on the apple quicktime forum:

QuickTime 7.2 and Windows 2000

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I have managed to install QT 7.2 on Windows 2000. I had to extract the installation files from the installer package, and edit the QuickTime installer file to remove the OS version check.
It installed and ran fine, and the only problem I found with it was that some of the full screen modes didn't seem to work as I expected them to, and in full screen the on-screen controls would not disappear from the screen as they should do, I could only have them permanently on or permanently off.
Otherwise it seemed to work fine, proving that the withdrawal of Windows 2000 support was a decision based on business reasons, not on technical reasons!

I downloaded UE and extracted the original file (quicktime installer.exe)
After I did this, i found quicktime launcher.exe, so I ran UE on that file.
I got a C++ error Microsoft Visual C++ v6.0 DLL [Overlay] *
How do I do what this guy recommends from the forum?
I can attach the original download if you want to play with it.
Once you've unpacked the files from the installer (which I'm guessing is installer.exe), then UniExtract's job is done. It's sounds like you're trying to further extract files from the application launcher, which isn't possible. Eg,. think of extracting files from the Winamp installer (which can be done), and then trying to extract files from winamp.exe (which can't). These seems similar, though I haven't messed with Quicktime in many years so I could be off.
When he says "edit the QuickTime installer file to remove the OS version check", I'd have to guess that he's referring to one of the included text files, like an ini/inf/iss/etc. file. I don't know how Quicktime is distributed, so I can't give you anything more accurate than a guess. If you still have trouble, you might want to post something back to the original site where you found that tip.
I'll look at it when I get a chance, but it appears to be another generic installer that UniExtract can't specifically identify. It may or may not be something that can be extracted. I know that doesn't help a whole lot, but unfortunately this isn't an exact science.
Once I get a chance to mess with this, I'll post back here if I had any results.
I also tried the trick from http://legroom.net/node/798 (which didn't help) and I have taken a look in what "Ressource Hacker" has to say about the file (but I'm not that involved so it didn't tell me much).
However, I will have a look at this topic to see if there is any progress. Thanks anyhow (also for giving us such a tool)

Re: C++
It seems I need nearly the same file to be extracted as Aaron's: http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CD… (from http://support.samsung.de/support/support_down.aspx?guid=88e6eebf-f093-…) in hope beeing able to flash the BIOS under dos as i use linux and this exe won't run.

Re: C++
Well, I spent a little while playing around with these files, but didn't have any luck. A quick search turned up this thread:

...which may or may not be applicable here. Sorry, none of my usual tricks worked.
