I have download a Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505 System BIOS in DELL netsite:
(http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&d… can not extract the file,so who can help me?THX.
It says:
MM06AS17.exe cannot be extracted.
Filetype returned was:Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0[Overlay]
Click OK if you'd like to analyze the file yourself,or Cancel to exit.
Re: can not extract an EXE file
Best trick: update the universal extractor files manually in the bin folder where you have installed the universal extractor. you have to just update these few files.
Just google search the following files
1.TrIDDefs.TRD from trid website.
( download 7z from the 7z website and then replace these two files ..
2.7z.exe from 7z website
3.7z.dll
Download these files and then directly replace them in the C:\program files\legroom\Universal Extractor\bin folder.
now try once again and then tell us all if it worked.
I have myself done this and now it works wonders!! extracts almost any kind of file!!
I have done this because its been 8 months but no update has been found from this website.
Re: can not extract an EXE file
I wouldn't recommend updating the TrID definitions like this. I have a bunch of custom definitions applied to the version included with UniExtract that was never merged into the upstream version, so if you switch to a newer version you lose all of those custom definitions.
As for the problem with the Dell update, I'll need to look into it. This used to work fine with Dell update packages; I've extracted plenty of them myself, and even use a couple for regression testing each time I push out a new version. As Maahir mentioned, though, it's been a while since I've updated UniExtract, so they simply may have changed to some new .exe format that it just doesn't recognize.

Re: can not extract an EXE file
Thanks for replying to mine. I have taken a notice of the custom defintions files you have made yourself. But about updating trid definition file; it is perfectly fine. I have just updated these three files only; and now it DETECTS AND EXTRACTS MORE FILES THAN BEFORE!.There is also less chance of losing the custom definition file because one can reinstall the program (or just uniextract the setup file!). I am sorry if i may unknowingly offended you because you carry the rights of the program. BUT THIS TRICK JUST MAKE YOUR PROGRAM EVEN MORE BETTER! THANK YOU FOR MAKING SUCH A WONDERFUL PROGRAM. Presently i only need some extractor that can extract installshield cab files. I am looking eagerly for a new version of your program.
