I've downloaded Visual Studio 2003 from the MSDN Web site, which was saved on my computer as an .exe file. Simply clicking on the file to run it will not install the program so I tried using Uniextract to try to extract the files and then install the program. Uniextract examined the file and brought up an error message stating that it could not extract the files because it was not a valid PE file. What do I need to do in order to install the program on my computer (my OS is Windows XP Professional). I've also tried running it from the command line without success. Can anyone help me out?
Re: Problem running or extracting executable file
It sounds like you have a corrupt download. The error message stating that it's not a valid PE file means that it's either not executable (eg., it's a text file or some other non-executable binary), it's an ancient pre-Windows 3.1 executable (which is obviously very doubtful for Visual Studio 2003), or it's corrupt and simply not recognized as executable. This would also explain why you can't install it simply by double-clicking the file.
I suggest re-downloading it.

Re: Problem running or extracting executable file
i have this problem 2..there always a solution for this and i'm looking for a way to solve it forever...
but i can help you by this method you have to apply it on every .exe file existing in the archived file or they will not be extracted..
just rename the file.exe into file.msi
(note: .msi stands for microsoft installer)
extract the file.msi then rename it in both places
( in the archive and in the new location) into file.exe and then run it
if the file.exe is not running it can be itself an archived file (.rar .zip .7z,etc...) or a video (.avi .wmv .mpg,etc..)
